Kevin grew up in the village of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Ridgewood is an architecturally rich town and he developed an eye for home design, construction detailing, and landscape design at an early age. His youth was spent with a large family of 8 children where he learned cooperation and team work at an early age. After graduation from Ridgewood High School, Kevin attended Appalachian State University in Boone NC on a basketball scholarship.
Kevin graduated ASU in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Technology with concentrations in Architectural Design and Architectural Woodworking with a minor in Education. He began a career in education at the Ashe County Career Center teaching high school students drafting and blue print reading as it related to the construction trades. While teaching, Kevin freelanced as a home designer and draftsman with a startup timber frame company named Harmony Homes. He spent his summer breaks helping to build some of his timber frame designs and developed a passion for the art of timber framing and was able to combine his design talent with his hands on woodworking skills. In 1986 Kevin obtained his NC General Contractors license and formed Celtic Building Company Inc. as a custom design/build firm. He acquired his NC Real Estate license in 1990 and expanded his operations to include real estate acquisitions and development.
Kevin served as President of the High Country Home Builders Association in 1992 and 2007 and served on the Board of Directors for over 15 years. Under his leadership the HCHBA started the High Country Parade of Homes in 2002. Kevin also started the Green Building Committee in 2007 where professionals in the High Country could come together and establish best green building practices for the mountain region. He earned specialty designations as a Certified Green Building Professional and also as a Certified Aging in Place Specialist. In 2013, Kevin was honored as Builder of the Year for the HCHBA. Kevin and his wife Jennie have two grown children- Katie and Eric, and they have always enjoyed their vacations at the NC coast and Kure Beach became a favorite destination. In the winter of 2013, the attraction to the coastal life overcame their love of the mountains and the decision was made to relocate to the Wilmington area.
“I am thrilled to be working with Intracoastal Realty and I share IRC’s passion to “Experience the Exceptional”. I understand how a house operates as a system, how a house should fit the land, and that people make a house a home.”
In his spare time, Kevin enjoys sailing, reading, sports, and long walks on the beach!
